The budget section, provides objective budgetary analyses, review program plans and budget details, and prepares budget detail for the annual Governor's Budget Recommendation to the Utah State Legislature. At the conclusion of each general session, analysts summarize appropriations and monitor expenditures throughout the year.

The budget section consists of twelve analysts who act as liaisons between one or more agencies and the Governor's Office. Analysts in the budget section, independently analyzes agencies' financial requirements, annual budgetary requests, specific program issues affecting the agencies, and financial program execution.

They assist in the development of the Governor's policy and planning themes, and present findings to the Governor, legislative subcommittees, and department executive personnel as necessary. Budget and Policy Analysts also review and track legislation for assigned agencies, and serve on various task forces, committees, boards, etc. as assigned.
