Jordan River Preservation SubCommittee Chapman Library |
To: All JRNAF Participants The preservation committee had a great meeting last week and WE ARE ENERGIZED! The main topic that got us going was the North American Wetlands Conservation Act Grants Program that Jeff McCreary with Ducks Unlimited talked about. There are 2 main grants: 1- A $1 million grant that DU has for acquisition ($750,000) and restoration ($250,000). These funds might be used in for the Jordan River area north of Utah Lake up to the county boundary. We will be compiling more information about the land in this area for our next meeting. 2- NAWCA has small grants up to $50,000 that we can consider applying for. http://northamerican.fws.gov/NAWCA/grants.htm Another discussion topic involved maps showing various types of data on the JR Corridor. The committee will be working with various agencies to compile data that will be useful for preservation efforts, including updating the information from the 2000 JRNCC Report. While collecting data, we will also get other information like trail data that will be useful for other purposes. We want to put much of the data/maps on the JRNAF web site this year. ACTION ITEMS: Our next meeting is August 11, 5:30-7:30 PM, Chapman Branch, Salt Lake City Library, 577 South 900 West DON'T MISS OUT ON THE ACTION!!!
