The Canyon Country Partnership (CCP) is a coalition of the Directors/Regional Managers and County Commissioners/Councilpersons of four counties, and three federal and ten state land/resource managing agencies whose jurisdictions overlap in southeastern Utah. CCP was conceptualized in 1993 in response to an emergency need for collaborative land management to deal with the recreation industry's burgeoning resource impacts.
CCP is about process—the “hows” of partnering, instead of merely the “whats,” the contents of specific projects. Process is the heartbeat of collaborative partnerships and inter-agency cooperation, because process is about honesty, embedded in relationship-building, humor, and good will. Process is proactive, guaranteeing all members' participation and commitment to collaboration, and circumventing reactive turf-wars and power struggles through communication, networking and information-exchange. Process is the heart of life itself, because it is all about relationships.
