Governor Appoints Angela Micklos to the State Board of Pardons and Parole

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert has selected longtime prosecutor Angela Micklos to serve on the five-member State Board of Pardons and Parole.

Micklos has served as the chief of the Special Victim Unit at the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office since December 2007. Prior to that, she was the chief of the office’s Narcotics Prosecution Enforcement Unit and a Deputy District Attorney.

She was also an Assistant Attorney General in the Utah Attorney General’s Office, where she litigated prisoner post-conviction claims at the trial and appellate levels in state and federal court.

“Board members serve an important role in our State’s criminal justice system. Not only must they understand the system, they must be reasonable and fair in making decisions that impact the safety of our communities and individual lives,” Governor Herbert said. “Angela meets all of these criteria, and I am confident she will serve the State well in her new role.”

Micklos has a juris doctorate from the University of Utah College of Law and a bachelor of science from Utah State University. She will fill the unexpired term of Board member Keith Hamilton, whose resignation is effective Oct. 19.

The Governor’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
