Governor Selects John A. Pearce as Legal Counsel

SALT LAKE CITY – John A. Pearce will join the Governor’s Office as legal counsel to Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert.

Pearce has practiced civil litigation with the Salt Lake City office of Jones Waldo Holbrook & McDonough since 1999. He serves on the firm’s Board of Directors and its three-member Executive Committee.

In announcing the appointment, Governor Herbert said, “With his temperament and standing in the legal community, John will be a fine addition to the Governor’s Office. His astute legal sense will make him a trusted advisor to me and the entire office.”

As senior advisor to the Governor, Pearce’s role will be to provide legal counsel on policy matters and proposed legislation, as well as interface with the Utah Legislature and advise staff on other issues.

Prior to joining Jones Waldo, Pearce worked from 1996 to 1999 in the Palo Alto, Calif., office of Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati.

Pearce holds a juris doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Utah. He is licensed in both California and Utah, and is a member of the Salt Lake County Bar’s Executive Committee.
