Governor Herbert to Chair First Meeting of the Governor’s Education Excellence Commission

“The Educational Excellence Commission is one of the most exciting initiatives I’ve undertaken as Governor,” Governor Herbert said. “It has great potential to make a lasting impact on our state’s future by developing a blueprint for educational success in Utah.”
The Commission’s inaugural meeting will take place Wednesday, March 24, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Capitol Board Room. The meeting is open to the public and members of the media.
Governor Herbert announced the creation of the Commission at the annual Governor’s Education Summit in December. At that time, the Governor called upon potential members to “check their biases at the door” and focus on long-term improvements for the benefit of the entire state.
“Education is a matter of great importance to all areas of our state – from our students and parents, to our business and community leaders,” said Christine Kearl, the Governor’s education advisor. “Governor Herbert’s leadership on this issue will not only improve the education our youth receive, but also position the state for future economic success.”
Dr. Brett Savage of NextPhaseLeadership will serve as moderator for the Governor’s Commission. Dr. Savage comes with a versatile range of public and business solutions, and has been the moderator for such groups as the U.S. National Summit for Personalized Heath Care in Deer Valley, Utah, Global Business Solutions, North/South America, and Global Leadership Issues and Strategies at Berkshire Hathaway.
At the Wednesday meeting, the Commission is expected to finalize its monthly meeting schedule and discuss potential agenda items for future discussion. The Capitol Board Room is to the east of the Capitol rotunda.
