State Flags Lowered in Honor of Senator Byrd

SALT LAKE CITY – Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has directed Utah flags at all state agencies be flown at half-staff in honor of West Virginia Senator Robert Byrd, who died early this morning.

“Sen. Byrd was a passionate advocate for the people of West Virginia, for whom he fought tirelessly for so many years,” Governor Herbert said. “His unfaltering dedication to his home state and the United States will not be forgotten.”

Flags at all state offices will be lowered until sunset on June 29 in honor of the late Senator. President Barack Obama has directed the flag of the United States be flown at half-staff on all federal buildings, grounds and facilities for the same period of time.
