Governor Orders Flags Lowered in Honor of Peace and Police Officers

Salt Lake City -Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the flag of the United States of America and the flag of the great State of Utah to be flown at half staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on May 15, 2011. The Governor’s order follows an executive order from the President of the United States proclaiming May 15, 2011, as Peace Officer Memorial Day and May 15 through May 21, 2011, as Police Week,
“We deeply appreciate the brave and dedicated service of all peace officers and police officers,” said Governor Herbert. “We pay tribute to their selfless contributions to our communities and state. We salute those who wear the uniform today and solemnly honor those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.”
On May 5 Governor Herbert participated in a ceremony honoring Utah’s fallen peace officers where three names were added to the memorial on the west side of the Utah State Capitol. At the ceremony, the Governor said, “It takes a special kind of courage, a singular spirit of dedication, and an unselfish commitment to the law and the public to be willing to do a job which puts you in harm’s way for your fellow citizens.”
