Governor’s Education Excellence Commission to Highlight STEM Programs

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert will wrap up his regular Education Excellence Commission meeting tomorrow with an on-site tour of and presentation about Granite School District’s Technical Institute (GTI).
The GTI offers 50+ career/STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) related pathways for students in high tech/high paying fields, including pre-med, pre-engineering, bio-technology, computer science, bio-manufacturing, and 3D animation. Through a USTAR grant, GTI partners with local business to provide laboratory facilities and equipment. This allows business incubation space to develop ideas and train future employees. Visuals include students in lab coats and goggles developing pharmaceuticals, or designing and creating medical devices, as they earn associates degrees while still in high school.
Governor Gary Herbert, Education Excellence Commission members, invited legislators.
