Governor Offers Condolences to Family of Utah Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

SALT LAKE CITY – Today, Utah Governor Gary Herbert received notification of the death of Specialist Preston J. Suter of Sandy, Utah.  Specialist Suter died on July 5, 2011, in Paktia Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  According to an announcement released by the U.S. Army, Specialist Suter died of injuries sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated near his military vehicle.
Specialist Suter was assigned to the 527th Military Police Company, 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Company, Hohenfels, Germany.
State flags will fly at half-staff the day of memorial or funeral services for Specialist Suter.
The Governor has issued the following statement:
“The entire State of Utah mourns with the family of Specialist Suter.   Deeply grateful for the incomparable price he has paid while honorably defending our nation and freedom, Jeanette and I offer sincere condolences to his wife and parents, and heartfelt thanks on behalf of all the people of Utah for his service to the country and this state.”
