Governor Herbert Orders Flags Lowered in Honor of Sgt. Daniel Gurr

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah to be lowered in honor of Sergeant Daniel D. Gurr.  The flags will be flown at half-staff at all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on August 13, 2011.
Sgt. Gurr, 21, of Vernal, Utah, died August 5, 2011, in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  He was assigned to the 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward), Okinawa, Japan.
Governor Herbert previously released the following statement upon receiving notification of Sgt. Gurr’s death:
“Jeanette and I join the entire State of Utah in our gratitude for the noble service and sacrifice of Sgt. Daniel Gurr. We honor him for pursuing his dream of military service for the country he loved. With heavy hearts, we offer his family our deepest condolences, prayers for peace, and appreciation for their dedication to freedom and our nation.”
