Governor Declares Tomorrow Hunger Action Day

Donate’s $30K Check to Kick Off Contributions

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert and his staff took time off today to serve at the Utah Food Bank. While there, the Governor declared September 29, 2012, Hunger Action Day to heighten awareness of the fourth annual Hunger Action Month Food Drive being held tomorrow at Walmart stores statewide.

“We have too many families facing hard times and empty cupboards every day. We all need to step up and help those in need,” the Governor said. “Hunger is something that affects everyone – from people on the streets to your neighbor next door. To help them, the Utah Food Bank needs your support.”

The Governor made the first donation to kick off the food drive by giving a $30,000 check to the Utah Food Bank. These funds were made available from the annual meeting of the National Governor’s Association (NGA) hosted in Utah last summer. The meeting ended under budget allowing the Governor to dedicate part of the excess funds to support local charities.

Hunger facts:

.        One in ten people in Utah are unsure of where their next meal will come from.
