Governor, U.S. Surgeon General to Promote Wellness in Walk Around Capitol

Why: Poor diet and lack of physical activity are key contributors to the obesity epidemic in Utah. More than 24 percent of Utah adults are obese, and if the number of overweight adults is included, the number increases to 59 percent. If the current trend continues, Utah’s annual obesity-related health care costs will reach $2.4 billion by 2018.

Where: West side of the Utah State Capitol
(the walk will proceed in a clockwise direction around the Capitol walking path and will end on the south side of the Capitol – in case of bad weather, the walk will take place inside the Capitol around the Rotunda and 4th floor)
Visuals: Gov. Herbert, Dr. Benjamin, and Mayor McAdams will be joined on the walk by members of the Capitol Hill Wellness Council as well as the executive directors of the Utah Department of Health and the Salt Lake County Health Department.
