Governor Orders Flags Lowered in Honor of Memorial Day

SALT LAKE CITY – Governor Gary R. Herbert has authorized the lowering of the Flag of the United States of America and the Flag of the State of Utah on Monday, May 27, 2013, in honor of Memorial Day.

Governor Herbert issued the following statement:

Memorial Day has become a time for remembrance of loved ones who have passed away. But, I also ask that we recognize the day for its original intent … honoring and remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Please take time this Memorial Day to remember and show your gratitude for all those who have fought for freedom.

The flags will be flown at half-staff on all state facilities from sunrise to sunset on Monday, May 27, 2013.
