“Paul possesses an immense understanding of Utah’s judicial system,” Governor Herbert said. “He brings over 35 years of experience working within Utah law. The state judicial system will assuredly benefit from his comprehensive expertise.”
Since 1978, Parker devoted his efforts to protecting Utah residents. He has prosecuted theft, assault, child abuse, sexual assault and homicide.
“I am humbled by this opportunity and grateful to the Governor for this appointment and his confidence in me,” said Parker.
Before his appointment, Parker served as division administrator and prosecutor for the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office from 1989 to 2013. Parker became a judicial clerk at the Utah Court of Appeals in 1988. He worked as a law clerk for both the Statewide Association of Prosecutors and the Salt Lake County Attorney’s Office from 1986 to 1988. Parker began his career in 1978 as a police officer for the Vernal City Police Department and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Utah College of Law.
Parker is appointed to the position held by Judge Judith Atherton who will retire August 1, 2013. Judicial appointments are subject to confirmation by the Utah State Senate.
