Governor declares Public Service Recognition Week

SALT LAKE CITY – (May 5, 2014) Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert has declared May 5-9, 2014, as Public Service Recognition Week in Utah. The declaration honors public employees in all levels of government, public education system, vocational training and higher education.

“I encourage Utah residents to recognize and applaud the outstanding accomplishments and contributions of public employees at all levels,” said the governor. “They protect us from harm, teach our children, allow us to travel and communicate freely, and deliver a myriad of critical services to everyone who lives in this great state.”

Public service employees include:

  • Public employees including federal, state and city
  • Military personnel
  • Law enforcement officers
  • Firefighters
  • Border patrol officers
  • Embassy employees
  • Health care professionals
  • Teachers
  • Scientists
  • Transportation workers
  • Safety inspectors
  • Social workers
  • And more

On Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 10:15 a.m., Gov. Herbert will visit the Dept. of Commerce and participate in some of their work responsibilities such as answering phone calls and greeting citizens filling out forms. Media are welcome to attend to help bring awareness to some of the great public service done at the state level.
