Capitol Preservation Board kicks off 6th year of free movies on Capitol lawn

SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah State Capitol Preservation Board (CPB) is pleased to announce the Sixth Annual Movie Under the Stars film lineup. Each summer, the CPB teams up with the Utah Film Commission to screen free movie on the southwest Capitol lawn. This year, the CPB is seeking volunteers to help with event setup and breakdown.

Movie Under the Stars will feature four movies throughout the summer

Friday, July 18 – The Lone Ranger (filmed in Utah!)
Local Musical Talent: The Heartstrings
Friday, Aug. 1 – The Lego Movie
Local Musical Talent: Julia Lelis
Friday, Aug. 15 – Despicable Me 2
Local Musical Talent: Charles Ellsworth
Friday, Aug. 29 – Frozen
Local Musical Talent: Chad and Kristo

Thousands of people of all ages gather at the Capitol with blankets and picnic dinners to enjoy the evening air, beautiful views, and great movies.

Live music from local bands and performers will kick off each night at 7:30 p.m. and continue until sundown, when the movie begins. Admission is free and lawn space is available on a first come, first served basis.
