Governor trains for state emergencies
December 15, 2014
Gov. Gary R. Herbert and his cabinet members received training on their roles and responsibilities in the event of a state emergency at the EOC disaster training Monday.
Trainings ranged from protocol to protect staff members and their families in emergencies, to coordinating emergency messaging to the public, to how to make state purchases during a disaster.
Gov. Herbert is confident Utah can meet the challenges presented by an emergency.
“Your respective organizations have talented, trained professionals who work well under stress and can support the emergency management coordination initiatives,” he told his cabinet. “We need to be as prepared as we can be to handle any emergency situation that may arise.”
The training took place at the state-of-the-art State Emergency Operations Center, from which the State Emergency Response Team will give orders in the event of an emergency.
The three-hour event included training for earthquakes, wildfires, riots, floods, power outages, environmental catastrophes and search and rescue.
