Prison relocation public events announced
May 4, 2015
Utahns will be able to visit counties of the prospective sites for the new state prison to view informational displays and ask questions of a Prison Relocation Commission panel in just a few short weeks.
In a letter sent Friday, Sen. Jerry Stevenson and Rep. Brad Wilson announced three dates for on-site informational public events designed to ensure transparency and public involvement — something Gov. Gary Herbert has insisted on since Day 1 — as Utah selects a site for the new state prison.
The current prison facility is dilapidated, inefficient and needs to be rebuilt in the right location with input from the public.
Each public event will include an “open house” close to the proposed site where attendees can browse informational displays, talk to state officials and participate in a Q&A session.
A public hearing will be set following these events. Open house events are scheduled as follows:Wednesday, May 20, 2015, 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Promontory Building, Utah State Fairpark 155 N 1000 W Salt Lake City, UT 84116 Thursday, May 28, 2015, 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Grantsville High School 155 E. Cherry Street Grantsville, UT 84029 Tuesday, June 2, 2015, 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. Frontier Middle School 1427 Mid Valley Road Eagle Mountain, UT 84005
