Governor declares Utah Navy Week

Governor Gary Herbert signed an official declaration Wednesday designating Sept. 7-13 as Utah Navy Week as a sign of the state’s deep gratitude and respect for the United States Navy.

“The State of Utah honors the work and sacrifice of the many men and women who have served and currently serve in the United States Navy,” Gov. Herbert said. “We warmly welcome the Naval representatives who have traveled to Utah to be out in the community this week.”

The Navy Office of Community Outreach has scheduled events in Salt Lake City throughout the week to educate citizens about the Navy and build greater public understanding and support. Events include appearances by the Navy Jump Team (“Leap Frogs”) at the Utah State Fair and the University of Utah versus Utah State football game at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Present at the signing were Rear Admiral Rick Snyder, Lieutenant Commander Apollo Burgamy, Lieutenant Javan Rasnake and Jim Bedingfield, Retired U.S. Navy as well as Gary Harter, Executive Director for the Utah Department of Veteran Affairs.
