Karen Peterson is the Legislative Liaison for Gov. Cox. Prior to her appointment as Gov. Gary Herbert’s Education Advisor, she spent five years as Deputy Education Policy Advisor, focusing on both public and higher education-related legislation. As a two-term member of the Clinton City Council, Peterson has experience in local government and municipal policy as well as connections with many community and industry groups. She earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Utah State University, and a Master’s of Public Administration degree from Southern Utah University, where she has worked as adjunct faculty.
She and her husband, Eric, have three children and reside in Clinton. They have close ties to Hill Air Force Base where Eric serves as the STEM Talent Acquisition Program Manager.
