Gov. Cox declares June 19 as Juneteenth in Utah

SALT LAKE CITY (June 17, 2021) — Gov. Spencer Cox declared June 19 as Juneteenth in Utah. Read the declaration below or here.

A tweet from the governor’s official Twitter account, @GovCox, earlier today noted Juneteenth as a holiday. It’s true that Juneteenth became a federal holiday today, but it is NOT a state holiday in Utah. That requires approval from the state Legislature.

The declaration issued by Gov. Cox is a recognition of a cultural celebration and not a holiday designation.

To be clear, Utah state offices will be open for business tomorrow.
