The Historic Governor's Mansion
Welcome to the Kearns Mansion, the official residence of Utah's governor! This magnificent French chateauesque home was completed in 1902 by Thomas and Jennie Kearns, Park City magnates who made their fortune in silver mining. The couple chose the world's finest craftsmen and materials to create an architectural masterpiece on Salt Lake City's South Temple Street.
Shortly before they moved into their home, Thomas Kearns was elected to the U.S. Senate and the family toured Europe collecting furnishings for their new residence. They raised their children in the home and engaged in philanthropic causes throughout the city.
Several years after her husband's death, Jennie Kearns generously donated the home to the state with the stipulation that it be used to house Utah's Chief Executive. It served that purpose from 1937 to 1957 and from 1978 until today.
We will be holding public tours the 1st Wednesday of every month from 2 to 4 p.m.
