Utah COVID-19 Briefing: Aug. 3, 2021

Some highlights from this briefing include:

  • The current COVID situation is starting to overwhelm our hospitals and ICUs.
  • We reported last month that the models were predicting 1,200 new COVID cases per day. Unfortunately, we’re seeing those predictions become reality.
  • According to CDC data that was leaked: Unvaccinated people are 8.3 times more likely to be infected than vaccinated people. They are 25 times more likely to be hospitalized. They are 24 times more likely to die from COVID than unvaccinated people.
  • When the outbreaks start in schools again, we expect to see disruptions to learning and extracurricular activities, unless students are vaccinated.
  • Visit coronavirus.utah.gov to find out all the facts. Talk to your doctor if you still have questions. There’s so much misinformation out there and there’s so much data that proves the vaccine is safe and effective. It’s truly the miracle we’ve been praying for, so don’t put it off any longer.
