Beau Mason

Commissioner, Utah Department of Public Safety

Commissioner Beau Mason was appointed Commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety by Governor Spencer J. Cox in June of 2025. Commissioner Mason has served in DPS since 2004. 

In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Commissioner to oversee the transition of the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services to DPS, Mental Health Grants, and standing up the Division of State Security. He was later assigned responsibility for the State Bureau of Investigations, the State Information and Analysis Center, and the Division of Peace Officer Standards and Training. 

Beau is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a Master’s degree in Public Safety, as well as Grand Canyon University, where he received a Master’s degree in Leadership. He also received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from SUU.

In 2024, Beau graduated with the 290th Session of the FBINA. He is also a graduate of  Northwestern’s School of Police Staff and Command (2014) and SUU’s Utah Rural Leadership Academy (2025).

A native of Salina, Utah, Beau graduated from North Sevier High School before attending SUU. He began his law enforcement training with the Police Corps program before being hired by DPS in the Utah Highway Patrol. From there, he has held the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Major before his promotion to Deputy Commissioner. While serving as a State Trooper, Beau was a member of the Motor Squad, SERT Team, and Peace Officer Standards and Training.  

Beau is supported from his home in Utah County by his wife, daughter, and son.
