May 23, 2025 – In recognition of Memorial Day, Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has ordered the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities. Flags should be lowered to the half-staff position at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025, and remain at half-staff until noon (12 p.m.) the same day. At noon, flags should be returned to full-staff. The governor invites all private citizens, businesses and organizations to join in this tribute to our nation’s fallen heroes.
May 14, 2025 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has ordered the flags of the United States of America and the state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day. Flags will be lowered to the half-staff position beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, and will return to full-staff at sunset the same day. The governor invites all private citizens, businesses, and organizations to join in this recognition by lowering their flags as a sign of respect and gratitude.

April 23, 2025 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities on Saturday, April 26, 2025, in recognition of the passing of Firefighter Corban Summers of the South Jordan City Fire Department, who died while on duty. Flags are currently in the half-staff position in recognition of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. Flags should remain in the half-staff position until the interment of His Holiness. The Governor’s Office will send an additional notice indicating when flags may be returned to the full-staff position. The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses, and organizations to participate in this recognition.

April 7, 2025 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half staff on all state facilities on Monday, April 7, 2025, in recognition of the life, legacy, and selfless sacrifice of former U.S. Representative Mia Love. Rep. Love's memorial services will be held on Monday, April 7, at 10:00 AM, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint Institute of Religion on the University of Utah campus. The public is invited to attend. On this day, flags should be lowered to the half-staff position at sunrise and return to full-staff at sunset. The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses, and other organizations to participate in this recognition.
Jan. 15, 2025 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at full staff on all state facilities on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, in observance of inauguration day. Flags will be returned to half-staff at sunset on the same day to honor the life and legacy of former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who passed away in December 2024. Flags will remain at half-staff through sunset on Jan. 28, 2025. The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses and other organizations to participate in this recognition.
Dec. 29, 2024 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities in recognition of the passing of humanitarian and former United States President Jimmy Carter. Flags should be lowered to the half-staff position immediately and should remain in the half-staff position until sunset on January 28, 2025. The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses and other organizations to participate in this recognition.
Dec. 7, 2024 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities in honor of those American patriots who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor. The flags should be lowered to the half-staff position at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, and remain at half-staff until 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024.
May 5, 2024 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities in recognition of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service. Flags should be lowered to the half-staff position from midnight until sunset on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Flags should be lowered to the half-staff position beginning at 12 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, until 12 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023. The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses and other organizations to participate in this recognition.
Oct. 9, 2023 – Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities in solidarity with the State of Israel and its people. The flags should be lowered to the half-staff position at sunrise on Oct. 10, 2023, and remain at half-staff through sunset on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023. The governor extends an invitation to all private citizens, businesses, and other organizations to participate in this recognition.
Sept. 29, 2023: Per a Presidential Proclamation, Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox has issued an order for the flags of the United States of America and the great state of Utah to be flown at half-staff on all state facilities in honor and remembrance of United States Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
The flags should be lowered to the half-staff position immediately, Sept. 29, 2023, and remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of interment. The Governor’s Office will send an additional notice indicating when flags may be returned to the full-staff position.
