Gov. Cox understands the importance of access to high quality and affordable health care. This became imperative during COVID-19, but remains crucial post-pandemic.
Gov. Cox is focused on promoting innovative ways to cut health care costs, addressing the social factors that can adversely affect health, preventing disease through healthy lifestyles, and increasing mental health resources and suicide prevention efforts.
First-Term Accomplishments
- Gov. Cox launched the One Utah Health Collaborative. Dozens of Utah health care providers, hospitals and clinics have joined this effort to share ideas and best practices about driving down costs and improving health outcomes. Now a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Collaborative has a board of directors and executive director to share knowledge and encourage innovative health care practices.
- He promoted suicide prevention through public awareness campaigns, candid conversations with students, and vocal advocacy of the SafeUT app.
- He pushed for tighter regulations of social media companies to protect Utah children.
- He championed record funding for domestic violence prevention and supported requiring lethality assessments and data sharing.
- He secured funding for mental health resources.
- He supported health officials and health care workers in the fight against COVID-19. The state administered more than 5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine, sustained one of the lowest mortality rates in the country while keeping businesses and classrooms open.
