Casey Cameron
Casey R. Cameron was appointed as the executive director of the Utah Department of Workforce Services by Governor Spencer J. Cox in December 2020. Under Casey’s direction, the department administers approximately 100 state and federal programs with more than 2,000 employees and a budget upwards of $2 billion. More than half a million Utahns utilize Workforce Services programs each year, including workforce programs, unemployment insurance, public assistance programs, child care assistance, refugee services, housing and community development, rehabilitation services and homeless services. Prior to her appointment as an executive director, Casey served for more than eight years as a deputy director for the department. In 25 years with the state, she has been instrumental in overseeing significant departmental changes, such as forming new divisions, launching new programs and leading the department through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Casey serves as a commissioner on the Utah Economic Opportunity Commission and chairs the Governor’s Refugee Advisory Board. On behalf of Governor Cox, she co-chairs Utah’s singular State Workforce Development Board. She sits on the Utah Homeless Services Board and the Shelter the Homeless Board. In September 2023, Casey was elected to the Board of Directors for the National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA). She is the past co-chair of the Intergenerational Poverty Commission and Governor’s Early Childhood Commission. She is a recipient of the 2018 Governor’s award for leadership and the 2010 Governor’s award for innovation and efficiency.
Casey is a graduate of the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in social and behavioral health. She lives in Cedar Hills, Utah, with her husband Ian and two fantastic boys. Casey and her family enjoy the outdoors, gardening, traveling and providing service to their community.
